It's been a while since my last video. The reason was that I had to wait to get my new 9x12 Intuos to replace the old 4x5 Graphire I was using for the past videos. Anyway... So I got a few requests of people wanting me to show proportions of the face and how to start it. So this is a pretty basic attempt at that. I recorded it at actual speed, but it seems really slow because I'm still getting used to this new tablet. I'm at least 3 times faster with paper and a pencil. Programs used were Painter IX and Camtasia Studio. For those wondering what brush I used, it was a 2B Pencil with default settings, at a 2.2 size and with a light light blue-gray colour. Music is 'Sealed Door' by Project Majestic Mix and 'Eternal Wind' by Mister G and FFMusicDJ. Well, I am finally getting around to attempting to get my dvd's done. So many people have been requesting them. My apologies to all who have been waiting. Times are so strange and strenuous. I find myself working 3 ties harder than I ever have just to keep up with the economy. This is a first round attempt at a full commentary drawing of a dragon for dvd. I'm not sure I will actually use this one, however-- the art table I drew it on was shaking like crazy... I know if I was the viewer who bough a dvd with that goin on, it would drive me nuts. I will probably do a few more before I select the right one to produce for the final edition of the dvd. I am starting with the basics and drawing with ball point pen, and pencil in others for these dvd's. Believe me, that is the BEST way to explain how and why I am doing these the way I am doing them. Actual drawing time to get this one done was 48 minutes. Enjoy!

My First Video: Critique's are welcome! 3/4 View Video is shown at 2X speed for youtube reasons. -Start with base line -Ellipse, Circle, Circle -Keep in mind, the wheelbase should be roughly 3 to 3.5 wheels across in perspective. -Make sure the body line starts low on the front and ends higher towards the back. -A-Pillars tend to start at the center of the front wheels-- drag lines out from there to create any angle windshield you'd like. -B-Pillars mark where the door ends (notice how I forgot to add a B-pillar :( -C-Pillars tend to fall above the center of the back wheel. -When drawing in a door make sure to follow the contour of the car body. A lot of people write me ask me advice on how to improve... They ask me to recommend books, vids, etc. Honestly, I don't really know of any that I can recommend when it comes to my own personal experience. The only real way I know to improve your chops as an artist is to obsess with drawing and painting. This video is a clear example of what I do to improve my chops. For me, this technique is highly challenging and extremely useful in conditioning myself as an artist. Basically I am sketching/painting a random portrait of a generic woman with black ink on illustration board. Obviously, since it is ink there is very little room for mistakes, since I can't erase (or "ctrl + z"). Also, the fast drying factor makes the challenge even more intense. In my opinion, this is where the real hardcore learning takes place. This is a lot like the guitar/musician practicing complex scales of notes in patterns that help them to build their dexterity and minimize the chance of flubbing during a performance. In the same way, this exercise strengthens my ability to deliver deadlines in top speed. I notice that on one of my other vids people have a hard time believing that I painted the whole thing in 1 hour. The implication that I am lying, or exaggerating is often put out there. Some artists have commented and even said that they work in industry as some kind of artist for hire of similar caliber, and they "know" it is impossible to do such a work in an hour.
